Air transport in India today supports 56.6 million jobs and produces over US$ 2.2 trillion of the global gross domestic product (GDP). Air passenger traffic is also increasing at a healthy rate, a development driven by modern facilities and infrastructure, which makes India one of the few emerging markets in the aviation world and there is a tremendous shortage of pilots.
The foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in air transport (including air freight) during April 2000 to March 2014 stood at US$ 495.24 million, as per data released by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Leading airliners like Jet Airways, Indigo, Go Air, Spice Jet are merging with International Airliners like Etihad airways, Qatar airways, Singapore airlines etc., which will help expand the Indian carriers, in turn increasing the intake of Flight Crew. The new domestic/international carriers like Air Asia, Air Costa and Air Odisha are hiring now for Captains and Co-Pilots. There are Charter companies all over India who are always hiring depending on their expansion plans, Apart from Passenger Carriers and Charter companies; India is expanding the cargo operations in the aviation sector demanding for more Flight Crew.
